About us

Redwave Thermographic services (Pty) Ltd was established in 2020 by Brandyne Arendse, certified I.T.C. Infrared Thermographer Category 1 and qualified Electrician.

We are based in Durban, Kwazulu-Natal and provide Thermographic services to the whole of South Africa and neighbouring countries.

We use only the top of the range and properly calibrated Fluke and equivalent testing equipment to conduct our thermal surveys in your facility, in order to bring you the professional, quality service needed to help you get the most out of your enterprise.

Our experience spans over 20 yrs of extensive electrical and mechanical work in the industrial sector. Ranging from the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of electrical distribution systems within the plant to the design, construction, refurbishment, maintenance, fault finding and repairs encompassing electrical, mechanical, pneumatics and hydraulics to a wide variety of both machines and ancillary equipment in the Blow moulding and Textile (Woven and Nonwoven) industries.

Infrared Thermography has revolutionised proactive and predictive maintenance techniques, and while the technology is not new it has come an exceptionally long way in recent decades. Now more than ever a thermographer can track and monitor heat patterns and detect anomalies quickly, accurately and safely.

Infrared Thermography is used in a wide variety of industries and applications such as Electrical, Mechanical and Electronic Engineering; Medical and Veterinary services; Research and Development projects; Process monitoring; The Military; and many more. Using only the latest, top of the range Fluke and equivalent equipment, we at Redwave Thermographic Services (Pty) Ltd focus on Electrical and Mechanical systems and machinery for all types of industry, as well as Electrical distribution systems for commercial buildings and premises.

Since the start of the industrial age, temperature has been used as an indication of machine health. Excessive temperatures, or sometimes the lack thereof, are clear indications of impending problems which are completely invisible to the naked eye. Everything that has a temperature above absolute zero (-273.15 ) emits radiation. This radiation is converted by the infrared camera into a visual image which we then accurately analyse using the latest computer software. We then provide you with a complete and easy to understand report within 48 hrs of completing the survey.

Adding our thermal surveys as an integral part of your proactive maintenance program will yield many benefits to you as our client. Below we have listed five key benefits that we can help you achieve by bringing visible solutions to your invisible problems.

5 Key benefits

  1. No interruption to your production process
    • Thermal surveys must be carried out in real time while all systems and machinery are fully operational and running under normal to maximum load. The process is entirely non-contact and done from a safe position.
  2. An increase in production efficiency in your plant
    • Early detection of anomalies and impending faults gives you the opportunity to schedule in the necessary maintenance and repairs at your earliest convenience instead of having an unexpected sudden breakdown during production. This will result in an increase in uptime and plant availability and a decrease in unplanned downtime and unexpected failures.
  3. Significant cost savings
    • Early fault detection not only helps to prevent expensive damage to machinery and electrical systems caused by sudden unexpected breakdowns but also helps to avoid unplanned production downtime and product loss. This will also bring a reduction to your maintenance and repair costs as well as your overall energy usage.
  4. Significant reduction in Health and Safety issues within your plant
    • Sudden equipment failure can not only cause severe damage to machinery and electrical systems but can also pose a serious fire risk as well as a serious risk of injury or even death to personal. Early fault detection goes a long way in preventing these issues.
  5. Increased lifespan of expensive components
    • All electrical and mechanical components that are unnecessarily made to work harder than intended will have their lifespan shortened. For example, an electric motor that is running at 10  above its rated temperature will have the lifespan of the insulation cut by roughly 50%. A bearing that is running hot due to a shaft misalignment of 5mm can also have its lifespan cut by up to 50%. Using Thermal imaging these and many more issues can be detected and then corrected timeously.
